2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans

I'm reading through the section on 'Protein' in the recently published 2010 Dietary Guidlines for Americans. I've heard a lot of grumbling from the nutrition community regarding the 'lack of common sense' in the evidenced based approach to these newest guidelines. I'm confused/perplexed why all of the great studies touted in the China Study did not make it into this report? I would love to hear the opinion on Dr. Campbell on this new report.....

Here is the summary of 'evidence' from the report regarding the benefit of vegetable protein.

"Question 2: What is the Relationship between Vegetable Protein and/or Soy Protein and Selected Health Outcomes?
Conclusion
Few studies are available, and the limited body of evidence suggests that vegetable protein does not offer special protection against type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, and selected cancers."
